I really appreciate how SCF allowed me to be exposed to the HBCU side of universities. Growing up, I wasn’t too familiar with HBCUs and probably wouldn’t have toured the various schools that were on the tour if it wasn’t for SCF. It opened my eyes to more institutions than the normal PWI that we all know of and I appreciate that.

I was facing a hard time at school. I was still adapting and didn’t know how to study. I was on the verge of being kicked out. I wasn’t a bad student; I just didn’t have the study habits that other more privileged students had. I had financial hardship and my parents were paying my rent and some food while I worked, but it was difficult balancing everything. The money I received not only helped me financially, it gave me some peace of mind knowing that I had support and someone decided to take a chance on me by giving me this scholarship.
