What being a SCF Scholar means: Being an exemplar of the motto “lift as we climb” is what I think it truly means to be a SCF Scholar. Having the opportunity to receive resources that help me pursue my academic endeavors, while also allowing me the opportunity to participate in different programs that help those who will come after me ensures that I am not only fulfilling the legacy of this foundation, but am also bringing positive change to those who need it most. It is important that as a minority student, I can show others that the success I will reach is possible.
Over the span of my undergraduate studies, I have gained extreme interest in minority mental health. My research interest focused on absent black fathers, and how they affect the mental and behavioral states of young African American women. I think that it is important that we pay attention to those young women and are able to provide them with the help they may need to be successful.
