Since inception, the Shawn Carter Foundation has celebrated the December holiday season by distributing toys or meals to youth and families residing in underserved Brooklyn communities. Through this annual event, the Foundation has served thousands of residents Marcy Houses and neighboring communities.
The Shawn Carter Foundation has supported youth basketball tournaments in the Marcy Houses in Brooklyn, NY for the past seven years. Over the past two years, alongside the Tyrone “Baldy” Foundation, hundreds of youth have gathered to participate in friendly competition before the start of the school year. Resources and achievement awards such as uniforms, school supplies, backpacks, trophies and other items are gifted to the youth in order to evoke a sense of community, excitement for education and establish a determination to succeed.
SCF has partnered with corporate, educational and community organizations to provide experiences, in-kind donations, and emergency relief support to impacted communities. Recent examples include COVID-19 relief in partnership with the Clara Lionel Foundation, the Reva May Nash Foundation and StartSmall.
Gifts of donated backpacks and supplies to schools, food distribution, donated tickets to events such as concerts, festivals, book launches and more.
Since 2012 the Shawn Carter Foundation has participated in the Made In America Festival as one of many featured organizations at Cause Village to engage 60,000+ attendees and raise awareness about the Foundation’s educational opportunities.
